On Saturday, September 19th, the Sam Houston Squadron (SHS) had a well-attended dinner at Lakewood Yacht Club. Approximately 55 people enjoyed a delicious meal of fish with lemon butter and caper sauce, a mixed vegetable medley, and cheesecake with blueberries. After dinner, participants enjoyed a presentation by Mr. James Harkins, Manager of Public Services for the Texas General Land Office (GLO). Mr. Harkins discussed documents housed in the GLO archives which give insight into the plight of Texas Navy veterans after their service and other genealogical information.
The SHS was proud to commission the following new Admirals – Bryan Baker, Marjorie Clark, Jayne Gillis, and Duane Guidry. Jayne Gillis was unable to be present for her commissioning.
Dawn Hatch was honored as a recipient of the Yellow Rose of Texas Award, granted by the Governor's office and given in honor of Texas women who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer and community service. Each of them has selflessly devoted time and energy for others, honoring and enhancing the great State of Texas.
The Sam Houston Squadron is honored to have these individuals as new members. The next program of the SHS is set for the evening of November 21 in the Lakewood Ballroom and all LYC members and their guests are invited to attend.
